How can we build a more sustainable and just future for everyone, and which role should AI play in it?
I studied physics and neural information processing to learn about complex systems. I then turned to applied research to better understand how we can build algorithmic systems that embed the values we want as societies. As a postdoctoral researcher, I am continuing this work and asking: Which methods do we need to assess the impacts of AI systems on society and the planet, and how do such impacts relate to each other? My research has a strong interdisciplinary character, drawing on my education in the hard sciences and experience in both academia and industry.
I am currently a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Impact AI project at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society. I hold a PhD in Data Science from Scuola Normale Superiore and also worked as an Early Stage Researcher in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN NoBIAS. I obtained my MSc in Neural Information Processing from the University of Tuebingen and concluded it with a thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences, and my BSc in Physics from the University of Rostock.
I also engage in outreach activities, such as the co-organization of the AI GAP Event Series or the Ethos + Tekhnè Program, and wrote a non-scientific article on AI and its impact on the climate.
